Vastalanka turns leftover and forgotten yarn into curated knitting kits. The yarn we sell comes from people like you: knitters clearing a stash, inherited boxes too lovely to throw away, single balls bought on a whim. If you have yarn sitting unused, we would love to give it a new home and pay you for it.
How it works
Lay your yarn out where the light is good and take one clear picture. A whole box in one shot is fine, the more we can see the better.
Tap the button below. It opens an email with a short checklist. Attach your photo, fill in what you know, and send.
We reply with a preliminary quote. If it suits you, we agree the details and pay you in cash once the yarn arrives.
How to photograph your yarn
A clear photo lets us give you an accurate price faster. None of this needs to be perfect, but the closer you get, the better our quote.
A table, a white sheet or a wooden floor. It lets us see the edge of every ball, with no visual clutter.
By a window is perfect. Real colours come through. Flash washes out pinks and over-saturates blues.
No stacking or piling. If balls overlap, we lose count and can't estimate the weight.
For example 4 by 3, a finger-width apart. Each ball gets its own space, so it is easy to count and label.
Anything of known size. It anchors the scale, so we can estimate weight from how big the balls look.
Leave the original ball bands wrapped on if they are still there. Brand, fibre and needle size for free. This one is gold.

- Clean yarn stored dry, free of moth damage
- Full balls and useful leftovers alike
- Rich, characterful colours: brights, deeps and warm neutrals
- Novelty and textured yarns for accents
Less suitable
- Very pale, washed-out pastels that read as colourless
- Yarn that smells damp or shows moth holes
- Yarn from homes where people smoke: we buy only from smoke-free homes
- Tiny scraps too short to knit with
- Heavily tangled or felted balls

- How much will I get?
- It depends on the fibre, amount, colour and condition. We send a preliminary quote from your photo, then confirm the final price once we have seen the yarn in person. There is no obligation to accept.
- How are you paid?
- Cash or bank transfer, whichever suits you, once the yarn reaches us and the quote is confirmed.
- Do I need the original labels?
- No. Labels help us identify fibre and brand, but plenty of good yarn comes without them. Tell us whatever you know and we work out the rest.
- What happens to my yarn?
- It is weighed, catalogued and curated into Vastalanka knitting kits, so it ends up in someone's hands instead of a landfill. That is the whole idea.
